Marlon King, Jamaican and British Footballer - Jailed!

Marlon King, famous Jamaican footballer (a Reggae Boy) and a very talented player for Wigan Athletic, in the United Kingdom, was today convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub, in December 2008 and causing her bodily harm.

It is said that he was out drinking and celebrating both his wife's pregnancy and the scoring of a goal, when female clubbers snubbed his advances.

He is said to have lost his temper when the last female, rejected his advances and so he smashed her to the floor. 

When other clubbers tried to restrain him...it is said that his single clenched fist was so powerful, that it sent them flying.

...The push he gave the 20-year old woman was so hard, that it broke her nose.

In his defense, Marlon has been saying that the woman was mistaken...that it wasn't him, but witness after witness, verified that Marlon was the woman's attacker.

Well the jury didn't buy Marlon's "mistaken identity" defense and given his history of abusing people when angry and/or drunk, found him guilty. As a result, the judge sentenced Marlon to 18 months in prison, today.

Hmmh!

I am begging my young friends, both male and female, to note this incident and the results, very carefully.

Drinking too much alcohol turns you into a fool...as it makes reasonable people say stupid things, reveal things they shouldn't, and act in ways that make them and their families embarrassed when they are finally sober.

King Solomon (from the Bible), the wisest man on earth, had this to say about alcohol in Proverbs 20:1- "Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise".

For many teens, younger and older adults...drinking with the "boys" and "girls" is a favorite pass-time.

...And in many cultures,...it's the norm for unwinding after a rough week at work, or after tedious weeks of studying for exams.

However, we see that, as a result of having too much to drink, Marlon:

1) Has lost 18 months of being with his wife, child and the rest of his family

2) Has lost 18 months of revenue - for he can't play professional football in prison. [He has lost his £35,000 (US $57,296)/month salary and his £1 million (US $1.64 million) contract with Wigon Athletic, will be revoked].

3) Will be thrown in prison, with hardened criminals, some of whom will be sure to make him their "sweet boy". (Oh yes, young people, when most males go to prison, gay prisoners rape them, and make them their "sweet boy" - their untouched bottom virgin...

These "sweet boys", then turn around and rape new prisoners...and so on...

...So prison is a place you want to stay far from, if you're not that way inclined).

4) Has damaged his reputation - as this stain will forever be over his head.

So young people, use Marlon's case as a strong warning!

...Please stay away from alcohol:

1) It's initial taste is bitter for a reason...

2) Too much of it, makes you throw-up for a reason...

It's a signal that it will cause bitterness in your life, if you hug it up and befriend it.

...This initial warning should be enough, for sensible people, to run far away from it!

Three Necessities for Young Women, Before Leaving the House

I notice a worrying trend among some young women...

They don't take a good look at themselves before going out in public.

They actually don't have on slips,  so you can see right through their clothes, down to the underwear they're wearing...

Which frankly gives the impression that they're available...very available for sex and anything sexual.

Ladies, we need to carry ourselves in such a way that, leaves no doubt as to who we are.

Hence, there are three (3) things that every young woman needs to own, in preparation to leave your house, at any time of day.

1. A camisole. (This protects the bra from being shown under a see-through blouse and also keeps sweaty scents in). A camisole is worn over the bra and beneath the blouse, shirt or jacket.

   
   

2. If your skirt or dress is not lined or is thin: then you need one full slip and two half-slips.  A slip is worn over the underwear and beneath the dress or skirt

   
   

   (You should have both in black and the other, in either beige or white).

   
   

   Slips also lessen the chance that your panty-lines will show through your dress or skirt.

   
   

3. A full mirror... Yes ladies we need full, body-length mirrors that allow us to take a good look at ourselves in the light or with enough sunshine, shining on us, to ensure that no-one can see through our dresses or skirts.

What you have under "there" is your business and not "John Public's". :)

Jamaica H1N1 (Swine Flu) Update

The following update was given by the Jamaican Ministry of Health, yesterday:

So far there have been 131 reported cases of the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus in Jamaica. (This figure includes people who have recovered).

There have been 5 deaths resulting from the virus.

As soon as a case is identified, the person is quarantined and Ministry of Health (MOH) officials go into the person's home and community to vaccinate persons there.

So far, the public has been cooperating with the MOH, and hence the H1N1 virus is under control in Jamaica.

The MOH is imploring:

1. All pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma and any other non-communicable diseases that diminish the proper functioning of the immune system

   
   

2. People in the high-risk group (less than 5 years old and greater than 65 years old),

to report to their doctor/health clinic immediately, should they notice any signs of the H1N1 virus.

Symptoms Include

Flu-like symptoms: coughing, sneezing, headaches and body aches, fever, chills, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.

Member States of CARICOM (the Caribbean Community) should be receiving their first  shipments of the H1N1 vaccine, next month. This is so that we can prepare for the December - January period, during which, a second wave of attacks of the H1N1 virus, are expected.

National Heroes Day: Usain Bolt and Gallantry Honorees

Today is being celebrated as National Heroes Day in Jamaica.

It's when we remember our seven (7) national heroes and their struggles to either free ordinary Jamaicans from slavery, bring Jamaica into nationhood, or enable the recognition of the rights of the ordinary Jamaican worker.

...Heroes like Sir Alexander Bustamante, Norman Washington Manley,  Paul Bogle, George William Gordon, Sam Sharpe, Marcus Garvey,  and our sole heroine - Nanny of the Maroons.

Heroes Day is also the day when national honours are bestowed upon Jamaicans who've done exemplary work in their communities and in service to Jamaica.

Some of the more prominent honorees, today, were:

Order of Jamaica

• Dr. (Jennifer) Carloyn Gomes - Order of Jamaica for outstanding contribution to Human Rights Advocacy

  (Dr. Gomes left her medical practice to concentrate on ensuring the rights of ordinary Jamaicans - Just like how her great-great-grand uncle - our national hero - George William Gordon, protected the rights of ordinary Jamaicans back in the 1850's -1860's).

• Usain Bolt - Order of Jamaica for outstanding achievements in the field of athletics.

• Dr. Mavis Gwendolyn Gillmore Peterson, CD - Order of Jamaica for outstanding contribution to Politics and Medicine.

  [This lady was a great Minister of Education in her time...a thinker, a strategist and a woman who I have a lot of admiration for...May Andrew Holness (our current Minister of Education) thrive to walk in her footsteps].

Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD)

• Mr. Ian Boyne - order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD) for contribution to the field of Journalism

• Pamela Holness  - order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD) for dedicated Public Service.

  [This lady is quite a controversial figure in Jamaica.

  She's the head of the Registrar General's Department (they issue birth, death and marriage certificates in Jamaica) and I'm sure famed Talk Show host and journalist - Wilmot Perkins and other Jamaicans who have had particular difficulties with this department, would vehemently disagree that she has served the Jamaican public well.

  (But she gets her honour...let's wish her well)].

• Mr Colin Anthony FOSTER - for his courage in saving the life of his bed-ridden Great-Grandmother when their house was completely destroyed by fire on December 6, 2006

• Dr Warren Sheldon JENGELLEY - for rendering assistance in the recovery of victims of the tragic motor vehicle accident in the Rio Grande Valley, Portland on December 19, 2008

• Mr Kareem Kristopher LAWSON - for his courage in saving the lives of two adults after their car plunged into the Rio Cobre on April 19, 2008

• Mr Winston Donnavan QUEST - for his bravery in rescuing a family of four from drowning in the Discovery Bay area on August 12, 2008

• Mr Jermaine Martin SELVIN - for his courage in saving the lives of two adults after their car plunged into the Rio Cobre on April 19, 2008

• Mr Erick Kenpatrick SPENCE- for rescuing victims of the motor vehicle accident in the Rio Grande Valley, Portland in December 2008, by risking his own life

• Mr Orett Barrington WILLIAMS - for his courage in attempting to save the lives of three boys who were drowning in the sea behind the old Sardine Factory in early 2008. Mr Williams tried desperately but was only able to save the lives of two of the boys because the third boy was too far out.

GWAP has always sought to recognize this particular category - due to the unselfish way in which the honorees in this category, risked their lives to save that of a fellow human being, who were oftentimes, strangers to them.

I was watching television over the weekend, when lo and behold I saw something that grabbed my attention.

I was watching a TV programme and then suddenly, I saw a big bottom on the TV screen, up in my face...I mean a really big bottom, akin to the mole that was on "The Mole" in Austin Powers 3 - the bottom was so big, that you could not help but look at it.

Then the camera focused on the rest of the object and lo and behold...this humongous bottom belonged a tiny woman.

She was advertising an energy drink known to be a sexual stimulant.

And oh she was caressing this big life-size bottle and of course the cameras focused on her bottom and the bottle.

And I said to myself...you know what? Why is it that from the beginning of time, some women have allowed themselves to be marginalized, for a few thousand dollars?

Why is it that sex or sexual innuendo sells and it always has to be a woman, doing the selling?

(The target market for the energy drink  are men who need to feel macho, by drinking a drink that supposedly "enhances" their sexual stamina).

And mind you, this ad came on at minutes after 9:00 p.m., when most Jamaican children are awake and imbibing everything they're seeing on the television set.

Well, the ad has come on for about three (3) times since then and whenever I see it coming up, I just switch stations...

I really don't need to see a big bottom in my face...

And I truly hope that most well-thinking mothers, fathers, women and men in households, feel this way and are also switching TV stations, after educating their:

1. Girl children that they  should never ascribe to be a sex object (like what that woman obviously is)...for as a God-created person, with feelings, whom God will hold accountable for the kind of life she lives, a girl should carry herself (speak, behave) in such a manner that commands respect from God and men.

She should be the kind of person whom no man could be bright and feisty enough to focus his camera on her bottom and be broadcasting it to millions of people!

2. Boy children that yes, such a woman may get their attention, but she's not the sort of woman to form a relationship with.

For she is cheap and will do anything for a buck and will hurt him in the process.

So yeah, this ad surely gets the men's attention, but it also cheapens women.

But unfortunately, as long as there are women who will do any and every thing for a buck...you will always have weak men, who will manipulate them.

For a strong man...a real man, in seeing a cheap woman, encourages her to think more highly of herself and if she doesn't, will leave her alone.

He doesn't fool around with and play with women, for he is a God-created man, with feelings, who is human, who knows that God will hold him accountable, for how he lives his life and as such, doesn't like to see people destroying themselves...to give him, or anyone else, pleasure.

Hmmh!

Stephen Fray, CanJet Airlines' "Hijacker" Gets 83 Years, Will Serve 20 Instead

Today, 22-year old Stephen Fray, the young man who "hijacked" a CanJet Airline plane at the Sangster International Airport and held passengers and crew hostage for 8 hours, on April 19,2009, was sentenced to 83 years in prison.

However, he will only serve 20 years in prison, as his sentences will run concurrently.

(CanJet Airlines is a Canadian airline. The "hijacking" was a major international disgrace for Jamaica, as our ability to properly secure our airports, was brought into question).

The charges against Fray include assault, larceny, illegal possession of a firearm, shooting with intent and robbery with aggravation.

(However, the assault charges against him were dropped).

His sentence was handed down by judge Sarah Thompson-James in the Western Regional Gun Court, in Jamaica, who apparently was not convinced that Fray was mentally deranged.

(Fray had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, prior to the "hijacking" and also, following the incident, but was deemed fit to stand trial).

Fray's attorney, George Thomas, will be filing an appeal, as he claims that the judge did not take into account testimonies of psychiatrists from the Defense and Prosecution, who said that Fray displayed signs of schizophrenia.

(Schizophrenia is a chronic mental illness, typified by delusions or false beliefs, not amenable to argument...it can impact the victim's behaviour on a daily basis.

In a majority of cases, it requires lifelong treatment. The most common form of schizophrenia is paranoid schizophrenia, which is what psychiatrists say that Stephen Fray has).

Ms. Joan Brown, co-founder of MENSANA - a support group for Jamaican families whose members suffer from mental illness, is quite up in arms, at the verdict...

So too are many Jamaicans who are concerned re how mental illness is perceived in Jamaica.

In an interview with Cliff Hughes, on Nationwide Radio's "Cover Story", today, Ms. Brown expressed concern that the judge was not more lenient towards Fray, given his mental condition.

(Unfortunately people who are mentally ill, in Jamaica, are usually jeered at, ill-treated and are basically just written off as being "mad").

If he is imprisoned, Fray will be put in a small cell with 4-5 other mentally ill persons, will not get the proper treatment for his illness and will suffer torture from other prisoners, due to his mental illness.
